Perspectives from the Bench
Honorable Christopher P. Yates, Circuit Court Judge, State of Michigan

Judge Yates will provide an in-depth and occasionally humorous take on the presentation of expert testimony based upon his experiences over more than a quarter of a century as a prosecutor, a defense attorney, and a judge handling a wide range of commercial cases. Judge Yates will address the standards for the admission of expert testimony and describe the pitfalls of testifying as an expert witness in jury and bench trials. In doing so, Judge Yates will discuss evolving standards under the United States Supreme Court's seminal decision in Daubert and explain how and why attorneys use expert witnesses to their advantage in commercial litigation.
